PMH was established in memory of Dr Onyia’s 3rd and last child, Patricia FLozie ONyia (PAELON), who was born with a rare congenital syndrome, CHARGE syndrome, in May 1994.
After 9 difficult years that included 5 major surgeries, Patricia died in November 2003 as a complication of her 3rd surgery that had been performed 8 years prior. This was a major motivation for the priority placed on patient safety in Paelon.
